My mission to find all the glacial boulders continues!
I visited Cannon Hill Park last week with my family and may have quoted Donkey from Shrek as I walked past the boulder. This lump of rock used to have a fence around it, and also a notice board to say what it was. Neither of these are here any more!
You can read more about the boulder here and here. Do you have any memories of it? Let me know!
as a child in the 60s we would come down most weekends and in the holidays, living approx 5mns away. We were told it was the devils stone, thrown in anger from the sky..... As we got older we were told it was part of a meteorite that had eventually landed in that spot... apart from that i couldnt say.. we were young and believed what we had been told........... LIZ.
ReplyDeleteToo right I have seen it. I have even climbed on top of it and somewhere I have a photo of me standing on this thing, sadly I can not find it.

ReplyDeleteNever had a fence when I was a child living in Sir Johns Road in the 1940s and 50s, nor a notice. We always believed that it, and a fragment that no longer seems to exist, was a meteorite.
ReplyDeleteWe lived at 2, Sir Johns Road from about 1962 until the 90’s. That rock, and the park was a pivotal part of our childhood!
